【And the Winner is・・・・Obama!】

というわけで大方の予想通り、第44代アメリカ合衆国大統領はバラク・フセイン・オバマ氏に決まった。

当日は、CNNやBBCの選挙速報を梯子して、ついでにオバマ氏の演説もライブで観て、その後の各メディアの報道振りも興味深く見ていた。

シカゴの会場の観客に混じって、1988年の大統領選挙で当時“初の黒人副大統領候補”に推された事もあるジェシー・ジャクソン師が感動に咽び泣いていた。

そして、選挙戦の最終局面でオバマ候補支持を表明した共和党のコリン・パウエルは、勝利宣言を受けて「私も泣きました」と告白している。

翌日、中東に旅立つ直前に、予定されていなかった会見を行って「どうしてもこれだけは言っておきたい。私はアフリカ系アメリカ人として誇りに思う。」とオバマ氏を賞賛して見せたコンドリーザ・ライスも同様だ。

ようするに、オバマ氏の勝利はアメリカの人種差別や公民権運動に携わってきた全ての先達にとって歴史的な出来事ということなのだ。

それにしても、例えば翌日にリリースされたマイケル・ムーア監督のニュースレターのように、この結果をほとんど狂喜乱舞して絶賛するコメントも数多く報道されている。

ムーア監督の場合、あの巨漢が破裂してしまうんじゃないかというほど、歓喜の涙を流して喜んでいる。

「黒人が大統領に選ばれるなんて！」

「アメリカはなんと素晴らしい国なのか！」

Yes We Can! どころか、Anything is Possible!なんだそうだ。

かと思うと、マケイン候補の勝利を信じ、最後まで共和党をプッシュし続けたFOX Newsの意気消沈振りをリポートする記事もある。

タカ派を代表するメディアも、民意には逆らえないのだろう。

The first polls had just closed when the Republican Right's "Agony of Defeat" moment arrived. It was just after 8 p.m. -- right as Fox's "America's Election HQ" show returned from a commercial break, and Brit Hume welcomed viewers back to his "Fair and Balanced" network.

But something wasn't right: There was a strange lack of background banter, none of the golf-buddy joshing that comes with overconfidence. There was just Bergman-esque silence between every one of Brit Hume's dramatic pauses. The Fox cameras wandered over an incredible scene: the cream of right-wing/neocon punditry -- William Kristol, Fred Barnes and Mort Kondracke -- were caught slumped in their chairs during the commercial break, deep in a state of hopelessness and depression.

「アリエナ～イ！」はずのことが現実に成ってしまって、ネオコン・サポーター達はよほどショックだったんだろう。

実際にオバマが勝利してみると、民主党が8年ぶりに政権を奪回したとかいうより、「黒人の血が入った大統領が本当に誕生してしまった」ことのほうが、社会的・歴史的なインパクトがあったということだ。

一般の日本人にとって、アメリカの人種差別問題は存在は知っていても、ある程度長期間にわたるアメリカでの滞在経験（それも場所によるけれど）でも無い限り、実際に体感したり理解することが難しいところがある。

正直なところ、かつてボストンという保守的で人種差別の激しい都市に住んでいた経験から、個人的には「オバマの勝利は結局無いのでは？」と思っていたのだが・・・。

予想が外れた。

しかし、残念ながらオバマが大統領に成ろうが、現在起こりつつあるアメリカ発世界同時多発金融危機が去ったわけではない。

もちろん、11月15日に開催される金融サミットの結果を見なければ分からないけれど、アメリカがこれまでのように単独で覇権を維持することはもう不可能。

この金融サミットで、ドルが基軸通貨で無くなる可能性がハッキリしてくれば、アメリカの没落は確定的になる。

誰が大統領をやっても、アメリカの景気は悪化の一途を辿り、結局オバマ大統領は、「やっぱり黒人の大統領だから・・・」という非難を浴びることになるのではないか？

それより気になるのは、オバマ氏が演説にも引用したリンカーンも、キング牧師も、そしてケネディーも、全員暗殺されているという事実。Bad Karmaだ。

今のオバマ氏なら、「アメリカの為なら命も惜しくない」というだろうが・・・。

気になるのは、パウエル氏がオバマ候補支持を表明したmsnbcの「Meet The Press」内での発言だ。

就任式が行われる1月20日直後に、何か起こるのだろうか？

文脈からすると“経済問題”らしいけど・・・

そもそも、無事就任式に漕ぎ着けられるのかどうか、前例のない世界最高レベルの超厳戒態勢で守られているというオバマ次期大統領の命運はいかに？
